Engineering and Maintenance

Engineering and maintenance is one of the UK's broadest sectors. Almost 5.7 million people work in engineering in the UK - could one of them be you?

There are lots of organisations that offer positions in Engineering in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, in many different engineering disciplines. As well as large employers such as ARM, Marshall of Cambridge, Stainless Metalcraft and Caterpillar, jobs can be found in smaller organisations across the region. Peterborough College, Cambridge Regional College and The North Cambridgeshire Training Centre all offer courses in Engineering.
Engineering can take a variety of forms – civil, military, or mechanical but the term ‘engineering industry’ is normally used in a more limited sense to describe the industry devoted to the manufacture of engines, machine-tools, and machinery. Design engineering can be an exciting and rewarding career as at the end of the process you will have a finished product. Engineers may use CAD and 3D printers to design. Maintenance engineers could work on the front line of a factory diagnosing breakdown problems, ordering parts and fixing machines. Maintenance engineers work in all fields of engineering.
For the engineering and maintenance sector, bridging the skills gap is a huge challenge that can only be achieved by reaching out to the next generation.
